lyrics
Charlie was a driver on the night trains
And he loved a little woman called Madelaine
He gave her everything anyone could own
A big diamond ring and a fancy home
But Madelaine wanted something more from life
She’d drive around the city and offer any ride
She’d slipped through their back door
A dozen men or more
He came home a little early from working late
Where he found her with a man about half his age
When Maddy tried to run he lost his brains
He cut ‘em into pieces in a blinding rage
By the time he tamed all was deathly quiet
Charlie was afraid he’d contemplated dying
Cos there layin’ on the floor
Was the girl he’d once adored
Look Charlie, long at what you’ve done!
Well Charlie drove ‘em out and dug ‘em shallow graves
He left bloody fingerprints on his rusty spade
The police came around and took him by fright
They took Charlie down the lock up and threw him inside
Charlie wore the blame when sent away for life
And round his walls of shame he’d drawn pictures of his wife
He was found hanging on his door
With a note to say he’d gone
To be with Madelaine once more
With Madelaine
